It's funny how animals have this "sixth" sense about things, they just "know" things. Well my cat (B'Elanna) is NO exception. She just "knew" that today was my birthday & she HAD to give me a "gift". Here's how it transpired . . .
I walked into the kitchen to get myself a cup of coffee & she was crouched in front of the dishwasher. Since we've had mice in the house I kind have figured she had cornered one under the dishwasher. About 15 minutes later I walked back into the kitchen & she was still there going back and forth between one corner of the dishwasher to the other. You have to KNOW that she had a mouse there. I thought to myself . . . . "self, you need to set some traps when you get home from work this evening." So I turn and go back to the living room, where my husband was sitting doing something on his computer. As I'm standing there talking to him we hear a commotion in the kitchen. A few moments later B'Elanna prances out into the living room and lays the mouse at my feet. Low & Behold it's still alive!! It starts to try to get up, so I stomp on its tail. I start screaming to Scott to get me a bag or towel or SOMETHING to catch the mouse with. He's a little stunnd so he's a little slow getting off the couch. When he realized the full weight of the situation he ran his tail off trying to find me something. As he's gone, the mouse realizes the predicament he's in, comes to its senses & starts to turn toward my foot. I freak out & let it go. B'Elanna gets it cornered again under the DVD shelf, so Scott & I proceed to try to catch it. After chasing it from one end of the DVD shelf to the other it slips by me and darts for the kitchen again. Once again we get it cornered, between the pantry & the cooler, that's still sitting in our kitchen from our camping trip in JUNE. Brian hears the racket and comes to investigate further. As soon as he walks into the kitchen and sees what's going on he makes a bee-line for the dining room & jumps onto a chair. :o) I finally talk him down from that and convince him to get me another paper towel. Now I have to. Scott shoos the mouse my direction again & I trap it in the paper towels. I run to the front door & throw the mouse to the ground and RUN for dear life. Whew!! What an eventful morning. In short, you will NEVER be able to convince me otherwise that animals don't have a "sixth" sense. ;o)
Well, Scott is going to take me to dinner, so I need to get going.
