LONG WEEKEND

Friday night we drove down to visit Erik's mom. Her husband past away Friday night. Kat and Michelle met us down there. We had a real quiet weekend.

The funeral won't be til the end of the month because that is when all Linda's children and spouse's were already planning to visit. But we thought she needed some support after being in the hospital for 10 days.

We did watch a few movies....
The Pursuit of Happyness *****
Eragon ***1/2

It was hard leaving her...

Playing catch up...

Erik went down to visit/help his mom this weekend. I rented a few scary movies to keep myself entertained.

The Skeleton Key
28 Days Later
The Lady in the Water

I give them all 4/5 stars.

We went to Easter dinner at a buffett place with a few other friends who don't have family here. We called it a "Misfits Holiday Dinner". Erik left early enough to just make it there with us. It was all right, certainly doesn't beat a holiday at home... *tear*

Tax Time

= Crunch time...

I just finished our taxes about a half an hour ago. Usually, I would have them done already because I go to one of those tax places. This year, a friend of ours was going to help us, but that was like pulling teeth so I ended up doing it online.

It should be easy since we don't have a house or any things we'd have to itemize but it wasn't that easy. Ever try to teach a monkey how to a cartwheel on a raft and sing the national anthem in Japanese? Didn't think so...

Oh well its done now....

Busy little beavers

Between work and play we have been very busy and I have been a very bad blogger.

This weekend we had our first SCA camping event of the season. Although Erik and I didn't camp, I thought it was still too early. But it turned out to be a great weekend, weatherwise between raindrops on Sunday.

It was also the first annual Pillaged Village event. It was held at one of our members farm about 25 miles outside of town. Saturday night we had a BIG bonfire. It was a really cool setting.

Pillaged Village is an arts and science (crafts and skills) event where we learned very valuable skills. For instance Erik (re)learned the art of blacksmithing, he made us some "S" hooks for inside our tent. I learned that soap making takes a really long time, more time than we had over the 2 days.

On Sunday we had our annual "Herd Master" tournament at Pillaged Village. Erik came in second place. He would have won it had they gone by points, but at the end of the tournament there was a final round that the top 4 competed for the top spot. Erik was the top of the final 4.

During court, I was awarded the "Baroness's Favor" which she can only give out once a year. It was very touching, we were both crying... I was given a very cool medallion to wear that she made herself. (its pewter cast with a winged bull)

All in all it was a super weekend and we are both very tired and its back to work today. The next 2-3 months we are very busy with SCA events.
