Bipolar update

First of all I have nothing against anybody who may be Bipolar.

I work with 3 ladies who are Bipolar and only one of them drives me bonkers... I think it is completely unprofessional to be speaking to the client sitting in your chair about your illness's. Especially any mental illness... I happen to think that people come to the salon to get away from work or the kids and to be pampered alittle. It should be all about them... Its almost like going to therapy for some woman.

I've seen people in her chair looking at me with this "get me out of here" expression as she goes on about her life story. Its quite sad if you ask me... I wonder if these people will be back in our salon, I wouldn't.

This same woman has been depending on me to take her home each night. She doesn't drive her car because she can't afford to register it and get insurance. I've told her that she needs to get insurance on one paycheck and register it on the next. So now that my car is out for a few days, she acting like I need to ask whoever is getting me home to take her home. She doesn't know that its Erik who is picking me up. And I'm certainly not going to expect him to put up with her.

The first night that he picked me up I had to tell her that I couldn't take her home this week because of my car. And her response was, (in a very whinny 5 year old voice) "Well, I just don't know what I'm going to do." She had no concern for me and the fact that I am without a car. And let me add she has never given any gas money to me.

And to top it off this woman is in her 50's.... can you believe that?

A certain person in my life is bi polar and they can be very wearing on you. A few things you should know. 1) It is always about them! There is nobody else on earth. I talked to this person on my birthday and even mentioned my birthday and she didn't even say Happy Birthday to me (and she is someone very close)
2) If you are not extremely clear about how you feel they will not take hints. I mean you have to say. Please find another ride home because I cannot take you anymore. Or please can you contribute money for gas, as it is not free.

I'm sorry if I have insulted any bi polar people out there, this is just what I have experienced from this certain person in my life (who I love very much).

Gwynn:

If someone is bipolar and knows it, they should try to step up to the plate and deal with their own quirks that they MUST be aware of, rather than expect everyone around them to educate themselves and live accordingly. Well, my Phaedra, I am sorry to hear that you have that kind of annoyance in your life. I am surprised that she is able to keep the job at all, if I were the boss, I would certainly already have warned her about her inappropriate "bedside manner". My advice is: try to remember that you can be in control here. It sounds like you don't HAVE to preserve good relations with her, so tell her "I'll need to get $25 a week from you for gas if you still want to carpool with me," or you can flat refuse to drive her anymore "Sorry, it's getting too hard to schedule picking you up in anymore" in which case if she can't get to work, perhaps she will find another salon closer to home to work in and the you will be free of the annoyance altogether!

Love you!
Gwynn

Aunt Sue:

I also have a close bi-polar friend and she fits the description of the above! I've had to learn to be very direct with her. And until I learned to do that - she drove me crazy!!
