This morning I wake up and look out the front door to check if Erik took the trash to the curb. And I notice something out of the ordinary. A bird sitting on the sidewalk. I sorta go about my business and check back every few minutes and it is still there. Just sitting on the sidewalk, looking around and looking as if he is taking a nap. He stays there for like 45 minutes. I call my Dad (because I am afraid the thing is sick with West Nile) and my Dad tells me to just shoo it away. So I go out there and the bird doesn't move, he doesn't even act afraid of me. I talk to it and tell him that he can't stay here. that he has to move on. He doesn't do anything. So after trying to talk to him for 5 minutes I get the hose out. He doesn't like getting hosed but doesn't move either. So I hose him more. Then he sorta staggers a bit then jumps onto a low branch of one of our aspen trees, I hose him more.... Then he flies over our drive way and into the nieghbors tree on a low branch. Where he's been for the past 15 minutes. He looks very weak and tired.
So, unrealated I see the neighbors dogs out, and a city truck watching them. So I escort the dogs to the front door of their housee and let the neighbor kid know that his dogs are out. Then I go to the city guy and talk/ask him about the bird. He just happens to be talking to animal control and gives me the phone. They won't come out to catch it if it can fly, they will come and dispose of it once it is dead. FAT LOT OF GOOD THAT DOES!
So anyway I'm stuck with a disease infected varmint in my yard til it dies.
I checked on 9 newswebsite and Colorado has now 154 cases of West Nile and 4 deaths.... I can't wait for summer to end...
